Designed to strengthen Canadian capability in the areas of interactive entertainment and cultural expression, the IPL is a unique partnership collectively designed and delivered by three highly respected interactive media institutes :

  • The Banff Centre's Banff New Media Institute
  • The Canadian Film Centre's Habitat New Media Lab in Toronto
  • L'Institut national de l'image et du son in Montreal
Together they offer a series of programmes to enable the creation of viable start-up companies that produce innovative cultural and entertainment works.

BNMI was founded in 1995 to stimulate dialogue and creative innovation in the exploding and ever shifting field of new and converging media. It is where the creative, technical, and business sectors come together in an atmosphere that offers peer learning, intensive dialogue, evaluation of real projects, high wire networking, and the awe-inspiring mountain vistas of the majestic Rocky Mountains . BNMI fosters artistic talent through its format of workshops and seminars, with an emphasis on collaboration between technological experts and artists from Canada and abroad.

The Canadian Film Centre’s CFC Media Lab is committed to transforming the best Canadian talent into key global participants in today’s cultural and entertainment industries. Dedicated to the exploration, development, and production of compelling interactive experiences, CFC Media Lab offers educational program that incorporate the intellectual rigour of post-graduate university curricula with the results-driven intensity of a production studio environment.

INIS is the only French-language centre in North America to offer separate professional training programs for film, television, and new media. All INIS programs are built on mastering the trade and developing creativity. The New Media Program at INIS is oriented towards the development of content that emphasizes interactive scriptwriting and project production. In a spirit of convergence among television, film, and the Internet, the selected students plunge into a place of stimulating discussion and experimentation, accompanied by professionals in the industry.
